Season 3 Episode 36

Posted by tinmanfrisbie on May 14th, 2011

Part 1 of 2. We discuss the finale of Smallville with Jon Wilson, a writer for the Superman Homepage who does the Golden Age Superman podcast and some other great podcasts! Part 2 will be recorded Sunday night May 15th. Enjoy!

Love the final but agree with you guys about the ollie/darksied mistakes. The whole Ollie killing the prophets wasn’t explain on the show to good but what happen was he killed the vessels and the darkness(Darksied) ran away. I thought it was weak because I was hoping for a fight and then kill shots on each one put it was quick just like the Clark/Darksied Lionel death scene. Alicia Baker was shown once but only when she was killed.

Overall, I think the finale was simply awesome. I was not expecting to see Tom in the suit, but also feel cheated that we got a cheap shot at a CGI suit (I agree with you Issac, it was nice to see the “S” on the cape ). Anyway, you guys forgot to mention the return of Aaron Ashmore as the real Jimmy Olsen. I thought it was great to see him one last time doing justice to the character.

Hi, I’m still realing from the Finale and can’t believe it’s all over. Waaaah! But it was so good…I agree with Jason about Ollie and the bow thing was so quick. However, with the limited time they either had to cut something out or didn’t get to include it as after all it’s supposed to be about Clark. But the whole “bow of Orion” thing was that the power comes from within so I guess Ollie became the bow of Orion since he was free of the darkness. I was going to say since he was now pure but really, Ollie, pure? LOL! I don’t think any Justin Hartley fan wants to see a completely pure Ollie…right Isaac? Wondering also if you’ve checked out the new Smallville soundtrack. It’s all instrumental and if you’re missing the Smallville ambiance it should do you. As always thank you both Isaac and Adam for all your hard work on the podcast.

Hmmm. Didn’t like the Darkseid representation, didn’t like Lionel’s appearance, didn’t like Chloe’s departure, didn’t like the push away of Apokalips, didn’t like not seeing him in the suit, didn’t care all that much for the CGI, etc … all of which are legit complaints. But the episode rates a 10? Really? There were some nice emotional moments to the show … Lex/Clark, MaPa/Clark, lots of Pa, and even the first Lois/Clark chat in the office. But in the end, I couldn’t help thinking that it was Welling who just insisted he wasn’t going to wear the suit … that was a terrible finish. I’m not Neal Bailey, but I think he’s pretty close to right about how Smallville disappointed due to stretching way too long. I’m a fan of the mythos, but the show didn’t do anyone any favors at the end.

@OldSupesFan. Congratulations on your first post, we hope you will continue to post! To answer your question as best as possible, I rate things a little differently than others. First, I don’t think any movie, book, anything is ever technically perfect. But I believe if it is good enough I can have the good cover up the bad. Others may not agree with me but that’s how I rate things. I believe the story was about him becoming Superman, not being Superman, so any suit action to me was more than I could expect. Others, like yourself, wanted more suit and better story. I was more concerned that he was accepting the role that he has been preparing for than anything else. I don’t entirely disagree with your points, they are valid. I just think for me, it was enjoyable. If you didn’t like it that’s cool, too! It’s nice to see people that are passionate about the mythos and love Superman, no matter what their opinion is. Thanks again for posting and please keep listening and stay super!
